Updated: Aug 4, 2021

Planning your dream wedding

Congratulations! You are engaged! You’ve got the ring and a dream wedding to make happen. Now what? Here is where enlisting the help of a Wedding Planner or a Coordinator can go a long way. With so many details involved in planning and hosting a wedding, having an experienced helper handle all the details in arranging and/or managing your event, can bring a priceless peace of mind. Figuring out which option is right for you can be difficult so we’ve gathered a few tips to help you in deciding between a wedding planner and coordinator.

Wedding Planner

If you’re someone who isn’t into details or schedules or lots of calling and coordinating, a wedding planner is the way to go. A wedding planner is responsible for helping you throughout your entire wedding which means from the invitations to the reception. They not only provide vendor referrals and negotiate contracts but also help you determine your budget, brainstorm style ideas and design details, create detailed timelines and floor plans, and oversee everything on the wedding day. Their goal is to handle all the stress and details of planning your dream wedding so you can just sit back and relax and wait for your big day. This can be especially helpful if you’re someone who has little to no free time, a demanding job, or have no clue where to start when it comes to planning. A wedding planner will ensure everything runs smoothly and all your deadlines are met from start to finish. Hiring a wedding planner can be costly depending on your area and wedding extravagance, but the peace of mind can be well worth the price. If you’re someone who wants to play a more active role in planning your wedding and the details involved, a coordinator might be a better option for you.

Coordinating your wedding event

Wedding Coordinator

A wedding coordinator is far less involved than a wedding planner and typically comes on board a month before your actual event. Although they are not involved in the planning process, a wedding coordinator will help ensure your setup and/or set change goes smoothly, your vendors know where to be and can coordinate their arrivals and departures, and can create and direct your event schedule. They are the overseer of the event the day of and ensure everything is in place at the right time. Even if you’re well organized and have everything prepped and in order for you wedding, a wedding coordinator can be invaluable the day of your event. You do not want to have to stress over every set up detail while trying to manage your wedding party, prep and dress yourself, and coordinate vendors. Even the best organizers would be hard pressed to keep a tight schedule with so many moving parts. Hiring a wedding coordinator takes the stress out of managing all the details involved in your event allowing you to focus on the day and enjoy your wedding.
